Diamond

April’s birthstone is Diamond and symbolizes purity, strength and commitment.  It has a special place in women’s hearts all over the world.

The first official diamond engagement ring was given by Archduke Maximilian of Austria in 1477.  There’s been no looking back since then, diamond engagement rings became a sensation.

The ancient Greeks knew diamonds by the name “Admas”, meaning unconquerable, a fitting name for the hardest of all gemstones.

Diamonds are one of the most prized crown jewels for centuries. Unlike other gemstones they are chosen for their lack of colour (whiteness) and sparkle (determined by clarity grade).

Diamonds can come in a wide variety of colours including yellow, blue, black, pink, red, orange, green and brown.

Only a diamond can scratch a diamond. But that’s equally important to the diamond industry, is that diamond can also scratch any of the precious metals used for settings. That means a diamond that’s loose in its setting can wear through a prong over time.
